Christmas trees, sticks and wood chips campaign for the collection and processing of New Year's coniferous trees
Christmas trees, sticks and wood chips campaign for the collection and processing of New Year's coniferous trees

Collection in Saint Petersburg‑St. Petersburg is organized by the Committee for Nature Management, Environmental Protection and Environmental Safety, the NGO "Ecological Volunteer Projects" and the Nevsky Environmental Operator together with the project partners. A convenient mechanism for recycling live Christmas trees will be available to citizens — everyone will be able to choose the most suitable method for themselves.
On January 17 and 18, 2026, the Christmas tree reception system will start operating in urban eco-points and eco-centers.
By the end of January 2026, the Nevsky Ecological Operator will organize a centralized collection of coniferous trees in 15 districts of the city: Admiralteysky, Vasileostrovsky, Vyborgsky, Kirovsky, Kolpinsky, Kalininsky, Krasnogvardeysky, Krasnoselsky, Moskovsky, Nevsky, Petrodvorets, Primorsky, Tsentralny, Pushkinsky and Frunzensky. The Nevsky Ecological operator will pick up Christmas trees from container sites and deliver them to the Volkhonka waste recycling complex. For proper organization of the process, it is important to follow one simple rule: Christmas trees must be placed exclusively in containers for bulky waste (CSW). This will prevent overflow of the MSW tanks and ensure the smooth operation of the collection system.
Traditionally, the NGO "Ecological Volunteer Projects" will organize the collection of fir trees, pines and fir trees in private eco-centers, at separate collection events, at shopping malls according to the schedule.
The action "Christmas trees, sticks and wood chips" offers a responsible alternative to traditional recycling methods and allows you to give old trees a second life. The resulting material will find useful applications — wood chips will be transferred to stables, shelters and nurseries for animals — for bedding and fertilizing; to urban farms, specially protected natural areas, public spaces — for mulching plants and filling soils.
